FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is MeterSight?
MeterSight is on-premises power and energy monitoring software for Windows, published by Wasatch Automation, LLC in Centerville, Utah. It polls your power meters, stores readings in a PostgreSQL historian on your own server, and provides dashboards, graphics, power-quality analysis, alarms and reports through a web browser on your network.
Which package should I start with?
Bronze if you need kWh totals and billing-cycle reports. Silver if you want live electrical values, trending, harmonics and scheduled email reports. Gold if you need alarms, graphics, ITIC and COMTRADE analysis, SNMP and role-based security. The packages page has a full comparison.
How does the free 7-day trial work?
Ask us for a trial and we send an installer link and a trial license. The trial is fully functional. A countdown in the header shows time remaining. Reinstalling or changing the clock does not reset it, because the expiry is signed into the license. When you are ready, activate a full license in place; your data stays.
Is MeterSight a subscription?
No. Full licenses are perpetual and never phone home. There are no per-user, per-dashboard or per-meter fees. Support and update entitlements are described in your order.
Can I run MeterSight completely offline?
Yes. Activate with an offline signed license file bound to the machine ID, run PostgreSQL on loopback, and apply updates manually if you wish. Nothing in MeterSight requires outbound internet.
What are the system requirements?
A Windows x64 machine (Windows 10, Windows 11 or Windows Server) with administrator rights to install, a network route to your meters, and disk space for the history you want to keep. MeterSight bundles its own Node runtime and PostgreSQL 18. It runs well on modest servers and virtual machines; ask us for sizing guidance for large sites.
Does MeterSight write to my meters or operate breakers?
Never. The Modbus poller implements read functions only (03 and 04), and COMTRADE retrieval never modifies remote files. Graphics show measured values and do not indicate or control breaker state.
Which meters are supported?
Verified presets for Schneider PowerLogic PM8000 and ION9000, presets for PM5500, Socomec DIRIS A-200, MCM-16 and MCM-48 and Powerside PQube 3, plus a custom register map editor for any other Modbus TCP meter. Gold adds automatic COMTRADE retrieval from PM8000 and ION9000. See supported meters.
How many meters can one server handle?
MeterSight does not impose a meter limit. The Gold reference load test polls 50 meters, 20 points each, every second with 100% successful polls. Larger sites are a matter of hardware and read intervals.
Can I use my own PostgreSQL server?
Yes. Point MeterSight at an existing PostgreSQL with TLS certificate and hostname verification. The bundled PostgreSQL 18 is the default and listens on loopback only.
How are updates delivered?
Through a signed, product-specific update pipeline. Each update carries a signed manifest matched to the product and your device ID, downloads over HTTPS with SHA-256 verification, takes a verified backup first, and rolls back automatically if the new service fails its health check.
What happens if my server dies?
Restore a verified backup onto a replacement machine. An administrator can reset the device on your license so the same key activates on the new hardware.
Can several people use MeterSight at once?
Yes. Any modern browser on your network can sign in. Bronze and Silver provide admin and user roles; Gold provides admin, operator and viewer roles.
Does MeterSight generate utility invoices?
No. Reports show usage and estimated cost based on the blended rate you enter, clearly labelled as estimates. Many customers use the CSV export to feed their own billing or accounting systems.
Where is my data stored and who can see it?
In PostgreSQL on your server. Wasatch Automation has no access to your meter data, reports or users. See the security overview and privacy policy.
How do I get support?
Email support@wasatchautomation.net or use the contact form. Support entitlements are described in your order or support agreement.
